FINDING CONNECTION

THE CONVERSATION – Where the art and music began

Family comes in all shapes and forms, and it’s not always founded by blood.

Sometimes it can be close friendships that form over years that become so strong they transform into a family.

And sometimes families are made up of patchwork parts that somehow meld together.

THE MUSIC

Family is like a garden where all the different vines spread and interconnect.

This music is from Melbourne Mosaic, a suite written for the Lyrebird Brass Quintet. Although it depicts the Botanic Gardens, the warmth and peace reflect how deep relationships can be.

THE ART

Finding Connection

Bronze 45 x 35 x 30cm

This sculpture is of Jaq’s Step-sister, Barbara. Jaq and Barbara didn’t grow up together and only reconnected about 15 years ago. But they instantly felt a connection, so a sisterhood from the threads of a patchwork family was formed.

For Jaq, it was curious that memories she had as a child, but couldn’t place, were verified by Barbara, who shared the same memories.
